What is Microlearning?

Microlearning is an emerging approach to learning in which information is broken down into smaller, more manageable chunks of information that are more focused on one, or maybe two, specific objectives. The literature contains varying views as to how long these chunks should be. They should be short, but how long "short" is varies from 20 minutes to 20 hours, though the high end is usually inclusive of an entire mcrocredential.

Microlearning comes in a variety of mediums from a singular infographic r video to full courses that are built around these tenets. Some examples using other terms are microcredentials, badges, etc.

Implementing Microlearning

Microlearning can be implemented at several different levels. Here are some ideas of ways you might think about using microlearning in your course:

Using short videos to illustrate a single point ro two points that are linked.
Creating an infographic to showcase a process or other type of data.
Creating chunked pieces of your course in which the students learn particular principles.
Have your students create a piece of media microlearning *for use in a classroom or wherever such a piece might be appropriate for the content.)
